My Complete Review of: Marriott Courtyard Isla Verde Beach in Puerto Rico

Estimated Read Time: 12 Minutes

Puerto Rico is always such an easy warm Caribbean destination to choose because not only do they not require a passport since they are apart of the US, but the flight going there are almost always very affordable no matter when you plan on going. I can say I visit this island at-least twice a year with family and friends and always have a great time!

Arriving in SJU Airport: Arriving at the airport was very easy as no passports were needed and we didn’t check any bags as we only reserved for a 2-night weekend stay. I will say that strolling two carry-ons, a diaper bag, and two book bags along with a stroller makes it very challenging navigating through the airport and always makes us consider checking in a bag or two to lighten the load but the way these airlines have been losing and delaying bags, I just can’t seem to justify it yet.

Check in: Check in was very nice and smooth and the ambiance of the hotel front desk was very inviting as we say a lively lobby ares with a bar as well as a casino. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to check out the casino, although I do regret not looking at it to at-least sign up for their rewards program. I did ask the front desk for a possible upgrade as I booked the most standard room they had, and they were able to offer us an Oceanview room which was a nice surprise. I will add that I did email the hotel directly a couple days before my stay to let them know we would be arriving and celebrating our anniversary and would love if they could offer us an upgrade. It never hurts to try to be extra nice to the staff and send them an email to let them know you are celebrating something special a couple days before your stay in a very nice and polite email including your hotel brand loyalty status as well.

Room: The room was very standard with nothing really special about it besides the nice view of the ocean. The Courtyards I will say is a lower more budget friendly line of the Marriott Hotel Brand and although they have nice hotels, they don’t usually really go the extra mile to perk up the rooms or update them.

Food: The food at this hotel was really below average. The drinks and food at this hotel need a second look at and perhaps some training on. The food lacked flavor and presentation at this hotel and the drinks made were not tasty at all and inconsistent. I ordered room service one night when I didn’t feel like leaving the room and not only did the food look unappetizing, but the containers that the food came in were unclean. I almost threw up in my mouth at the sight of it and immediately pushed the food away. I should have called and complained and asked for a refund , but I was too tired from the days activities that I decided to just call it an early night. We did enjoy Amazing breakfast and fun and tasty looking Cappuccinos at Bistro Cafe, while I highly recommend visiting at least once! Another restaurant we tried was called, La Verguenza and I HIGHLY recommend having lunch or dinner here as the food and drinks did not disappoint. We sat on the bottom floor but they also have a rooftop seating area upstairs that really looked like a vibe! Keep in mind this is NOT an all inclusive resort as Puerto rico does not have any all inclusive resorts as they are apart of the US. I will say during the morning time, they had a buffet spread and an outdoor seating area looking over the water which was really nice to sit, relax, and enjoy breakfast and coffee while looking over at the waves of the ocean. This was probably my only good food experience at this resort.

Beach: My family and I really enjoyed the beach at this resort as it was clean and the water was nice. My toddler enjoyed playing in the clean sand and making splashes in the ocean waves. The had ample seating areas with chairs and pool towels as well as sunscreen available as well. I would rate the beach a 7/10.

Pool: The pool was nice as they had two different areas including a swim up bar which was nice as well as a hot tub. The pool water was not heated but it was not freezing either. I spent a good chunk of my time at the pool and at the swim up bar.

Check Out: Check Out was very quick and easy and I always ask for a printed statement to review any room charges I may have had.

Overall Experience: I would say that I probably wouldn’t stay here again due to the lack of cleanliness this property seemed to have and not having any big wow factor. The carpet in the room was extremely dirty as well and didn’t seem like it’s been power washed in a long time. If you are looking for a low budget beach property and don’t care much about the room and food then this may be a place to consider to save money. I did get this room free using points from the Marriott Credit Card free night certificates but I saw the cash prices for them being $500 or more a night , which I would never pay. I would rate this hotel a 5/10.
